The Utterance of Existence
I write the word ‘existence’ onto this pad with my pen, and Existence itself utters its truth to me. It makes bare its own miracle, unclothes its own mystery, reveals its own amazement.
This utterance shakes me. I feel viscerally the raw truth of its being. Its majesty demands my wonder, my interest, my thirst for understanding.
Concepts scatter across existence, scatter across the open, unbounded, and ever-changing field of knowing. Like jigsaw pieces pulled from the bottomless depths of infinity, they beg to be placed, to be connected, to be held cohesively together.
They hunger for a worldview, they want to understand themselves, the world, and their place in it. They want to understand their relation to others, to their environments, to the world as a whole. They seek a home, a place of refuge, a place of harmony and peace.
The picture comes into view. It’s beautiful. And then it vanishes. Dissolves in an instant, as fast as a dust devil evaporating into the vast open desert air. It’s a brief figment. An appearance. A flame from the Fire. A wave from the Ocean.
Again, a picture comes into view. I get glimpses of my reflection. And again, it vanishes.
I thirst for understanding.
